Q. What is the first treatment like?
A. We will talk for about 30 to 45 minutes depending on your problems. I will take your pulse and look at your tongue, then we will discuss things like diet, your priorities, and what you expect from the treatment. This will be followed by 20 minutes of acupuncture. Fill out the Health Form prior to your visit so I will be well prepared to discuss your needs and concerns. Subsequent sessions, if you decide to have them, will include a short talk followed by 50 minutes of a treatment (acupuncture only or a combination of acupuncture and massage).
Q. What are the Acupuncture needles like?
A. Acupuncture needles are very small, about the width of your hair and they are not hollow. They have a rounded end and part your skin rather than pierce it. You will have two to four needles in your first treatment. You will lie in a comfortable massage table (see photo gallery) with heat lamps if you want. You can listen to soft music or sleep. For most people it is a deeply restful and restorative time.
Q. Does Acupuncture hurt?
A. Most people do not even notice the insertion or removal of needles. However, there is a certain sensation you need to feel in order for the acupuncture to work, it lasts only for a moment and I will guide you through it.
Q. What should I wear to a treatment?
A. Comfortable loose clothing is the best but if you come in your work clothes, I have gowns you can change into.
Q. Should I eat before a treatment?
A. You should not have a heavy meal but your stomach shouldn’t be empty either. A small snack is fine. Please tell me if you are hungry, I usually have crackers and juice at the office.
Please contact me if you have any more questions.
